Zork Wiki
Jeearr

Jearr is an evil demonic entity. A great power who lives in a void beyond the world, and feeds on war and suffering.

It appears as a strange creature, a snake with a feline head, a round furry body and a powerful tail that lookslike a tentacle of an octopus. Its large eyes are usually impassive. During its appearances, it is floating in the air, sometimes doing figures like somersaults, surrounded by a faint light as if it is a projection. It speaks in a high-pitched, squeaky voice and laughs maniacly.

Whenever it appeared to Bivotar and Juranda, it talked in rhymes that contained hints to help them, perhaps as a means to challenge and taunt them, but guided by its "help" they caused its defeat.

Conquest at Quendor[]

Cloud hand

By the time of Syovar, Jeearr was thought to be an ancient matter of legend, but Grawl served him. When Syovar was about to end the wars around Frobozz, and unite the warring leaders under the Kingdom of Zork, Jeearr saught to end his plans and used his "nephews" as a means to lure him.

Antidote

Jearr and/or Grawl caused a black hand to appear in the world of Bill and June, which caught them and transported them to the world of Zork. They found themselves trapped in a dungeon. Jearr then appeared and said that Bivotar will they die unless they find the silver spoon and disappeared while laughing. Right then Biv was stung by a scorpion. When Biv found and used the antidote, they wondered where a staircase leads; Jearr appeared again saying that sharp fangs await anyone there, and indeed the corridor was full of vicious rats.

The actions of the kids, guided by Jeearr's "help" brought Syovar, who attacked and eventually killed Grawl. Jeearr appeared again above the body of his servant, now angry, and cursed Syovar that everything he had planned will fail; Syovar fell to the ground, wounded from the battle. Syovar was unable to attend the Treaty of Quendor and Jeearr's plans to perpetuate the bloodshed were going to succeed.

Bivotar and Juranda decided to help Logrumethar by finding the Helm of Zork and he teleported them near a castle where the ralic was hidden. Jeearr appeared again to them, mentioning about a buoy at the river, and that they should twist a sceptre before walking on the rainbow above the waterfall.

Later when the kids reached a volcano shaft, with the remnants of a hot air balloon, Jeearr appeared floating in its center, saying another riddle, reminding them that hoe air rises. Then he floated upwardto a tiny circle of blue far overhead, and faded in the distance.

The kids escaped lava tube with a hot-air balloon and landed near the ruins of a castle. Jeearr appeared again telling them that what they are seeking is inside, and to enter the castle they must pass "a final spelling test", and slowly faded away, followed by the sound of his evil laughter lingering for a moment.

Jeearr appeared one last time when the kids entered the chamber where the Helm of Zork was being kept (one can guess that Jeearr intended them to go there in order to trap them). Once they got the Helm, a cold wind blew around the room, closing the door behind them. Jeearrappeared behind them, his face cold with hatred, and in a malevolent voice he told them that a whirlwind will bury them with the tower.

This time it didn't disappear, but whipped back and forth its tail, faster and faster, and a wind wailed around the turret. The floor quivered, and bits from the ceiling crumbled down, threatening to fall on them. However Juran had a magic bead from Logrumethar, which safely teleported them to the Castle of Zork; the Helm was used in a way that ensured the signing of the Treaty of Quendor.

Belboz incident[]

During his control of the area surrounding Egreth Castle, Jeearr was using infernal machines to breed mutated grues that were not afraid of light. Luckily for mankind, these grues were never released into the world at large.

In 957 GUE Belboz became involved in a series of dangerous exploratory experiments to look into dangers posed by the existence of Jeearr. Undertaking these experiments alone to shield the Circle of Enchanters from the perils involved, Belboz eventually succumbed to the powers of Jeearr, who kidnapped him as part of his plan to gain world domination.

The same Enchanter who defeated Krill was able to find Jeearr's lair, destroy the evil demon, and save the life of Belboz. The Glass Maze was used, underground near Egreth Castle in order to trap him.
