Logrumethar was the son of Syovar and Lorena. His father's enemy Grawl killed his mother and enchanted Logrumethar, exiling him into a far away land, the Cavern of the Rainbow Mosses. Syovar in vain looked for him and finally decided he was dead.
Logrumethar had been cursed by Grawn and transformed into a hideously ugly creature, scaly and deformed, called Grum so that anyone looking at him would be turned to stone. However he still retained his warm and compassionate eyes. He remained there because he didn't want anyone see his ugliness and turnpeople to stone, and he remained alone without friends. Eventually he forgot his past and even Grawl's name.
The Cavern of Doom[]
Years later adventurers started exploring and rediscovering the Mines of Zork and entered Grawl's region Grum's cave. Grum was happy because they came to visit him, but when they looked at him they became statues. Among the first who came were two elves fighting over a jade figuring. He thought they were playing and approached to play with them, but once they spotted him, they shared the same fate.
Sensing that two strangers also entered his cave, Grum warned themsto stay away or they will be sorry. Bivotar was worried seeing the statues of the people turned to stone and considered leaving but Juranda noted that there was no evil around. Grum cried out again warning that they will be turned into stone, and they saw it darting behind some statues to hide.
Asked about him, Grum said his name, and the statues are the result of the enchantment put to him by a terrible warlock but was unable to say more. The kids sensed the sadness and compassion in Grum's voice and felt sorry for his loneliness. HeEaring him crying, Bivotar decided to meet him and ran toward Grum's voice. Seeing him aproaching, Grum tried to run away but fell down and tried to hide his face. But Bivotar caught up and looked at him, ignoring his ugliness and looking his compassionate eyes.
Grum was surprised that he didn't become a statue, and Juranda also came, deciding that he isn't so horrible; they realised that trying to warn us to stay away, despite his loneliness, meant that Grum had inner beauty. Grum started crying. The kids invited him to return with them above, saying that a good wizard will be able to break the enchanmtment. Grum agreed, unless just one more person became a statue.
The kids said that for this they would need light, and Grum led them to a chamber with a flaming ivory torch. The chamber had four exits but Grum couldn't guide them as he never got beyond that point. The kids chose the door signed "Hall of Mirrors" as it seemed the safest and Grum followed them.
They reached a room similar to the one in the Castle of Zork with an enormous mirror. Bivotar touched the glass and an earthquake followed. Soon they found themselves in the banquet hall of the Castle, and in place of Grum there was Logrumethar, with his princely robes. He said to the surprised kids his name, and that Grawl's enchantment was broken. Syovar heard the earthquake and entered. He greeted Juranda and Bivotar and noticing Logrumethar froze then ran and embraced his son.
That evening Syovar held a mighty banquet to celebrate his son's return, and noblemen attended. Bivotar and Juranda were with them at the head table. Bivotar asked for an explanation, and Logrumethar said that his father was right to send them into the Cavern as only he felt that they would succeed instead of mighty warriors. Syovar completed that the enchantment started to break when they demonstrated that their feelings for Grum as a person were more important than his appearance. Logrumethar added that touching the mirror destroyed the last of the curse, restoring his memories and appearance.
During that feast Syovar performed a powerful spell which restored and transported back the lost explorers, and then allowed the kids to return home.
Conquest at Quendor[]
Syovar was preparing for the Quendor Conference when news arrived that Bivotar and Juranda were captured by Grawl in some castle dungeons. The encounter with Grawl severely wounded Syovar. By some magic they all returned safely to the Castle of Zork, in one of the turret rooms.
Syovar lay on a canopied bed unconscious and Logrumethar leaned over, applying ointment to his burns. He told the kids that his wounds are serious and he looked bad, expressing his surprise for Grawl's power. Then the kids mentioned that in the dungeon they witnessed another being and Logrumethar asked its description; he immediately realised that it was the ancient demon Jeearr from the legends, who probably helped Grawl, in thrall to him. As a healer tended Syovar, Logrumethar continued explaining the real reason bhind Biv and Juran's capture: it was not actually for seeking revenge on them, but to lure Syovar to Grawl's trap, and prevent him from being at the important conference that would end the wars; the failure of the conference would mean bloodshed that would feed Jeearr for centuries. Indeed, the healer said that he would not be able to be at Quendor, putting the Treaty (and peace) at risk.
Then he remembered of the ancient Helm of Zork, a lost heirloom that would allow him to impersonate his father beyond detection, and attend the meeting in his place. The kids showed eager to help him find it, but the problem was that it was lost and he could not leave his father's side. The kids were also reluctant to desert Syovar but Logrumethar said they can't help more than the healers.
Although Logrumethar wouldn't ask them to undertake thie quest, the kids decided to seek the Helm. He took them to his bedchamber and gave Juranda a magic glass bead that would allow them to return to the Castle, and a lantern. From his cabinet he took a brittle scroll, a powerful spell of his that transported them to the vicinity of the Helm, wherever it would be.
Lastly he warned them about Jeearr, who although might seem like a harmless jokester, he would probably visit them again. Even Logrumethar couldn't explain why he liked spouting riddles that actually "helped" the kids. With that, he read the spell and the kids were teleported away.
Logrumethar waited for the kids always sitting by his father's side, as he was becoming more and more pale and losing his breath. He leapt from his chair when he saw the kids teleporting to the room holding the Helm. He expressed his admiration, for finding so quickly a treasure that for centuries defied the greatest adventurers.
He lost his excitement when the kids asked about his condition, and looked off to hide a tear in the corner of his eye. He took the Helm and left in haste, as he was supposed to reach Quendor by next midday. It hurt him to leave his father, with the possibility to never see him again, but knew that he was doing his wish, so he appointed the kids to look after him in his place. His fear was that if he died soon, the assembled leaders would feel his passing, and discover his charade, voiding the Treaty.
He called his swiftest steed, and reached Quendor. Indeed he successfully fooled everyone and the Treaty was signed. Hours later, Logrumethar rode back to the Castle holding the Treaty on his hand. With the kids's permission, the healers used an experimental procedure on Syovar and he was looking better.
Indeed, the next day Syovar regained consciousness for the first time, and Logrumethar told him all that happened while he was unconscioussness, and his success.
