Vengrallior was a powerful sorcerer in the years of the Great Underground Empire, descended from a long and ancient line of sorcerers. He could resurrect armies of dead and create oceans. A man with gray, straggly hair and deep eyes.
His nemesis Malifestro made King Dimwit Flathead to exile him away from the Land of Frobozz. Centuries later Vengrallior retreated in a small cabin at the foothills of the Flathead Mountains, by a small stream, near the entrance of a cave with only a few stools and soiled mats.
He watched from afar the exploits of Bill and June who were in a quest to defeat Malifestro; when they came to him, he welcomed them and offered them some thin and lumpy porridge he was boiling. He wished to help them by feeding, sheltering them, and giving some advice: turn not from the one-eyed monster and pass through the gates of despair; with this, he was exhausted and fell back. He wouldn't answer more questions as the kids should be meek and innocent to be undetected by Malifestro; he explained that he will rest only if his mortal enemy is detroyed.
With a wild laugh, he vanished.

Meeting Vengrallior is an optional branch in the book Malifestro Quest as the book's options allow the reader to directly enter the cave, ignoring the cabin. Even so, the kids mention him later in dialogue, for example when meeting the cyclops or entering Hell, even if the reader hadn't read the pages with Vengrallior's appearance, creating some continuity paradox.
